Thelma J. Garrett

1923 - 2010

Thelma J Garrett, 87, died May 30, at Parkview Acres Nursing Home, of natural causes.
A service was held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Missoula, with Julie Briggs, director of Brundage Funeral Home, officiating.
Mrs. Garrett was born May 7, 1923, to Howard and Verna Dubois, in Windham, Mont. Thelma grew up and graduated high school in Windham. The family later relocated to Missoula.
Thelma met and married Bill Garrett in July of 1945. Thelma and Bill went on to establish their Missoula residence and long time home in 1946 where she lived for 62 years until relocating to Dillon.
She loved fishing, camping, gardening, and her German shepherds. Her family wrote, " Thelma Garrett, our mother and grandmother never liked to be the center of attention. If she were with us now, she would want us to take the focus off of her and put it on us. She would not want us to focus on the sadness of her death, but instead look at the happiness we still have in our lives. She would want us to look at each other and appreciate what we have together and what we hope to make better.”
Mrs. Garrett is survived by her sister, Hazel McGraw; two daughters, Glenna Garrett, and Gail Weisz; six grand-children; eight great-grandchildren; and soon-to-be, one great-great-grandson.
She was preceeded in death by her husband; sister, Loree; and two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Jordan.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Leonard Ray Love

1950 - 2010

Leonard Ray "Scruffy" Love passed away June 5 at St. James Healthcare in Butte. He was born Dec. 24, 1950 in Laramie, Wyo. He attended many schools during his youth as his family moved frequently.
In 1968 he joined the Army, serving in Viet Nam and finishing his tour at Ft. Hood.
He did custom harvesting in areas from Texas to the Dakotas. He also drove truck for New Ulm, hauling grain.
In the early 80s he began working for Jim and Linda Allen at Horse Prairie Ranch, haying, working cows and hauling hay and cows in "ol Blue", a Kenworth truck. He often said "the best view is on Bachelor Mountain on top of my horse!"
In 1983 he was joined by BJ Johnson and her family, Jason, Jeremy, Brian and Christi. They eventually moved to Dillon where Lenny began driving truck for Cleverly Trucking. He was known for his sense of humor, once showing up at the Matador Ranch in a psychedelic head band and blue John Lennon sunglasses. Always wanting to comply with OSHA, he had a hard hat shaped like his cowboy hat.
In 2003 he went to work for Montana Brand Produce, delivering produce to Albertson' stores throughout Montana. He enjoyed meeting people and had a knack for making people laugh. Scruffy was known for his love of chrome and lights, dressing up all the trucks he drove; he was very selective in choosing people he "let" polish the chrome.
He enjoyed John Wayne movies and could recite the dialog right along with the Duke in his favorite, McClintock. He also had a passion for growing roses, sharing the flowers with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Love, and father Mervin Love.
Survivors include wife BJ; children, Jason, Jeremy (Heidi), Brian, Christi (Frank); brothers, Earl and Carl; sisters, Gaye Stovall, Neva Hendrickson, Eva Love-Chezem, Lois Love and Pam Schuster.
Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was looking forward to hauling cows as he often did on the weekends until his health failed. We know he is watching over us from a Peterbuilt, complete with chrome and lights.
He will be deeply missed.
There will be a visitation at Brundage Funeral Home today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. Committal services, with military honors provided by Dillon American Legion Post 20, will be held Friday, June 11, at 2 p.m., at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A guestbook and video is available on line at www.brundagefuneralhome.com.
