David Hotrum Duncan
1949 - 2011

David Hotrum Duncan passed away at the age of 62 following a brave and courageous battle with prostate cancer. At the moment of his untimely death he was surrounded by his spouse and dearest friends.
He was born Feb. 19, 1949, in Whitehall, to Philip and Kathryn (Hotrum) Duncan.
When Dave was four years old his father was elected judge of the Fifth Judicial District, and the family moved to Dillon. Dave graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1967, and from the University of Montana in 1971.
Following graduation Dave lived and worked in San Francisco for several years before relocating to Seattle, Wash. With a keen ability to always seek out the positive side of life, Dave had a natural inclination toward sales. He demonstrated this talent with successful sales records for both the Olivetti and 3M Companies.
Always willing to seek out and develop a new opportunity, Dave also had several successful years in the business of real estate.
Gathering his collective talent and knowledge of sales, Dave established the Duncan Company, a wholesale gift business, at the Seattle Gift Center. His product lines included yard and garden products in addition to high-end French linens.
The sales associates from the showroom covered the Pacific Northwest. After 25 successful years at the Seattle Gift Center, Dave made the decision to sell his business and retire.
He relocated to West Hollywood, Calif., in 2004, and immediately became active in the gardening activities of his condominium association for which he was recognized with a plaque in his honor. Not being one to let the battle with cancer slow him down, Dave continued to make the most of every moment pursuing the adventures of travels in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and South America.
Dave's bright and positive outlook on life served as an inspiration to those who were caught in the arc of the bright light of his being. He will be especially missed by his family members who survive him in death; Lee Hurley, his spouse and life partner of 30 years, West Hollywood, Calif.; brother, Monty (Kay) Duncan, Butte; sister, Irene (Tom) Erdie, Helena; sister, Jane Duncan, Missoula; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private burial will take place at the family plot in Pony.
Per Dave's wishes, donations in his memory may be made to The City of Hope Cancer Research Foundation, 1500 E. Duarte Road, Duarte, CA. 91010.
Condolences and memories may be shared online at the website for Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery and Mortuary, www.pbwvmortuary.com .
