Glenn William Hayden

1930-2010

Glenn William Hayden passed away at the Barrett Memorial Hospital January 13, 2010. He was born September 23, 1930 in Butte, Montana, the eldest of three children born to Dillon area ranchers Archie William Hayden and Lucy Martha Conklin Hayden. They lived in the Centennial Valley until 1936. He ranched with his parents in the Dillon area, attended Dillon schools and graduated from Beaverhead County High School with the class of 1949.

On March 25, 1956 he married Mildred Joan Hyde Sheldon, the widow of Virgil Oren Sheldon. He adopted her three daughters, 4 year old Elizabeth, and 2 year old twins Virginia, and Virgilie in November of that same year. Four more children soon joined the family; Sam (1957), Lu (1959), Clyde (1961), and Albert (1964). He and Mildred were later divorced.

Glenn and Mildred ranched in the Dillon area for many years, did custom haying, owned the old Skeets Café, ran the bus depot in Dillon, and worked for the Federal Reserve for several years. They moved to Oregon in early 1994, and then he returned to Dillon in 2005 to live at his place north of town.

Glenn is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dan Hill of Dillon; his children Elizabeth (Dave) Williams of Missoula, Montana; Virginia (Ron) Spier of Salem, Oregon; Virgilie (Floyd) Wheeler, Sam (Julia) Hayden, Lu (Dennis) Swart of Lincoln City, Oregon, Clyde (Shelly) Hayden, and Albert Hayden all of Dillon; 23 grandchildren, 3 of whom are currently serving in the Military, 43 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Archie Douglas Hayden; his grandson Robert Floyd Wheeler; and his granddaughter, Mildred Rose Hayden.

Services were held Monday at the Brundage Chapel. A potluck reception followed at the Elks Lodge.

His body has been cremated. Anyone that knew Glenn will know that his kids followed his final wishes, his cell phone and his keys went with him. He had many friends and will be missed by all.

There is a guestbook available online at www.brundagefuneralhome.com.
