Voters narrowly OK District 10 bond levy measure

School District 10 voters gave the go-ahead to a $9.5 million bond levy to finance new construction and reworking of Dillon Middle School and the adjacent Parkview Elementary School into a single, contiguous facility. By a slim margin, 1,149-1,058, voters approved the district's levy request in a mailed-ballot election.

Shirley Anne McLaren

1934 - 2010

Shirley Anne McLaren, age 76, died peacefully at her home in the early hours of Saturday, Oct. 9.
Shirley was born in Sheridan on Jan. 23, 1934, to Leland T. and Florence (McClurg) Baker. She graduated from Sheridan High School and attended one year of business college.
Shirley and Arthur M. McLaren were married June 10, 1956, in Sheridan.
While living in Dillon, she was employed by Eliels Department Store and Dilmart. She worked as a bookkeeper for Vaughn - Ragsdale, Rogenes, Tire Rama, and The Globe in Helena from 1960 to 1984.
Shirley worked from 1984 to 1997, and retired from the Department of Transportation as a licensing technician.
Shirley enjoyed gourmet cooking, sewing, knitting, crafts of all kinds, and spending time with her family, spotting in the ski boat for her grandson.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Cathedral, the Lost Corner Square Dancers, and the Elks Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur McLaren; her brother, Danny Baker; and her parents, Leland and Florence Baker.
Shirley is survived by her son, Arthur Ray (Terressa) McLaren, Ft. Greely, Alaska; daughters, Cindy (Frank) Lopez, Big Fork and Shari (Randy) Robertson, Terry; sister, Janice (Hymie) Waage, Alberta, Canada; nine grandchildren, Josh (Cyndi) Sawyer, Levi (Cassie) McLaren, Justin Lopez, Tanner McLaren, Whitney McLaren, Brady Robertson, Chance McLaren, Caleb McLaren and Franque Robertson; and one great-granddaughter, Ore Anna Ortivez.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Harrison. A reception will be held at the Ft. Harrison Service Club.

Robert C. Bourassa

1932 - 2010

Loving husband, father and friend, Robert “Bob” C. Bourassa, age 77, passed away Oct. 3 from complications of Alzheimer’s.
Bob was born in Dillon to Frederick and Pearl (Van Horn) Bourassa on Nov. 8, 1932 and spent his childhood in Dillon.
After high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 as a paratrooper.
While stationed in Fort Campbell, Ky., he met and married Evelyn (Creekmur) on Feb. 6, 1953 in Cadiz, Ky. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
After returning to Montana, Bob and Evelyn settled in Dillon, and Bob attended the Moler Barber College. After graduating, he barbered in Dillon.
They moved their family to Helena in 1963 where Bob continued his barbering. After barbering, he worked at Western Drug. He then joined the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s office, and worked for Dave Middlemas. He continued at the Sheriff’s office with Chuck O’Reilly. He retired after 28 years in December 1998.
Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very social person. He enjoyed many gatherings of family and friends. His favorite things to do in his off time were camping and fishing with his wife, grandchildren and pets, and motorcycling with his wife and special nephew, Kenneth Downing, and his wife Terri.
Bob is preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers, Milton, David and Richard; sisters, Vera, Erma and Helen; infant son Jerry; and other nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Helena; sons, Mike, Las Vegas, Nev., Del (Linda), Charlevoix, Mich.; daughters, Sherri Moltzan (Doug), Great Falls; Pam Bourassa (Don Dullum), East Helena; Michelle Adsem (Steven), Helena; special nephew and his wife, Kenneth and Terri Downing; their children, Jolene, Troy and Gary Downing and Lynn Stapleton; niece, Delayne (Rob) Whorley; his great joys of his life, grandchildren, Duane (Flo), John, Cory, Eric, Christina, Casey, Marissa, Ashley and Mariah; great-grandchildren, Sam, Lauren, Faith, Shannon and Mariska; and other numerous nieces and nephews; special pets, Bandit and Squeeks.
Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 10, and family received friends between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Burial with military honors followed at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Harrison.
