Frances Holliday Johnson
1920 - 2011

Frances Holliday Johnson, 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, at Billings Clinic Hospital following a short illness.
Born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1920, Frances was the third child of Samuel L. and Gladys Louise (Kavanaugh) Holliday. She grew up with her sister Ellen and brother Phil on the family ranch on the Cottonwood Bench east of Clyde Park.
Frances rode a horse to country school, went to high school in Clyde Park, and teachers’ college in Billings. She taught in country schools in Park County and grade school in Livingston.
Frances married Everett Frances Johnson of Livingston in 1946. They made their home on Chicken Creek near Livingston where Everett’s parents had a dairy.
The couple moved to Livingston in 1953, and bought the John Deere dealership in Dillon in 1956. That was sold in 1970.
They kept the business name, Dillon Ranch Supply, which then manufactured trailers. Frances was always active in the business, keeping books until her death.
Frances loved her family. Everett, son Jim, and an infant son preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons Michael of Sheridan and Sam of Dillon, and daughters Holliday Richardson (Lee), Whitehall, and Joellen Moon (Ken), Helena. She is also survived by grandchildren Jamie Johnson, David Richardson, Cory (Alyce) Richardson, Brett (Kara) Richardson, Erin (Chris) Mustoe, Kara (Eric) Ranney, Sam (Emma) Moon, Kaitlin Moon and Tasha Johnson. “Frances the Great” was the proud great-grandmother of 11 great-grandchildren, with three on the way.
She will be remembered for her quick wit, fabulous cooking, prolific green thumb, unending creativity and endless projects. She was a devoted recycler, always finding a use for anything even before it became a popular thing to do.
Frances was a life-time member of Easter Star, having held nearly every office at least once. She was a loyal friend, and will be particularly missed by her coffee group of special friends.
A memorial service celebrating Frances’s life was held in Dillon, Monday, May 30 at 3:30 p.m. at Brundage Funeral Chapel.
