Boyd Wilson Ivie

1948 - 2011

Boyd Wilson Ivie, 62, of Dillon, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, at St. Patrick’s Hospital of Missoula. He was surrounded by family at his passing.
He was born April 4, 1948, in Salmon, Idaho, to Jim and Mable. He was one of 12 children and grew up in a strong family.
During his youth, he was active in sports, especially baseball and basketball. He graduated from Kellogg Senior High School in Kellogg, Idaho.
He was stationed in Germany as a soldier in the United States Army from January 1968 through December 1969.
His mining career began as an underground worker. He passionately tramped all over Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Washington and Oregon working at various mines.
In 1970 he married Margery Ann Hughes. Together they lived in Smelterville, Idaho, with their five children, Joe, Melissa, Judy, Cindy and Candy.
Boyd loved fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. He also loved visiting with his brothers and sisters; some of his fondest memories were surprise visits from them, staying up to the late hours of the night playing cards and telling childhood stories.
His hobbies included wood working and leather crafting. He was content and happy with a simple lifestyle. He had a huge heart full of love for all and was always there for those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ivie and Gordon and Mable Fink; a sister, Helen Kurtz; brothers, Leo and Leonard Ivie; nephews, Edwin Davis, Rich Draben and Wayne Ivie.
Boyd is survived by his loving children, Joe Ivie, Dillon; daughters, Melissa Bowlin, Reno, Judy Longie, Dillon, Cindy Lavanchy, Denver, and Candy Delaoof, Dillon.
Survivors also include grandchildren Amber, Cindy, Taylor, Nick, Matt, Abbi, Franny, Erica, Josh, Gene, Ryan, Rachel, Aspen, Joel, Blake, Caleb, Anna, Cade, Bryce, Lynsey, James and Mackenzie; and great-grandson Hunter.
He is survived by a sister, Velda, Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Kenneth, Pinehurst, Idaho; sister, Fran, Smelterville, Idaho; sister, Aggie, Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; brother, Wendell, Salmon, Idaho; brother, Marvin, Park City; sister, Chris, Spokane, Wash.; and brother, Kurt, Park City.
A celebration of Boyd’s life was held Saturday, March 12, at 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Dillon.



Franklin Gene Barker

1935 - 2011

Franklin Gene Barker, 75, passed away on March 11. He was known as Thumbs or Geno Barker.
Gene was born at home to Everett and Gretchen Trent Barker on Oct. 30, 1935, in Ottawa, W.V. He was the youngest of five children.
Gene was the steward for the Dillon Alano Club for 15 years. He was an exceptional listener, and befriended people throughout his life.
Gene was as authentic as anyone could aspire to be. He as also an avid dog owner, and could often be seen walking or chasing one of the three Muffetts, uptown or at the Alano Club.
Gene had also worked for many ranches as cook in both Montana and Wyoming. His last cooking job was for Dick Hirschy the year Mount St. Helens erupted. He loved cooking for Alano Club potluck dinners.
In 1987 Gene was in an automobile accident six miles north of Jackson. He lost his left arm but was able to adapt to a new lifestyle.
Gene is survived by his sister Elizabeth "Lib" Shawver, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, March 18, at 2:30 p.m., at Brundage Funeral Home, with graveside services to follow.
There will be a potluck dinner after graveside services, at the Dillon Alano Club. Please bring salad, dessert or side dish to go with ham. You may call the Alano Club to find out what is needed.
Donations may be made to the Beaverhead United Way, Dillon Humane Society, or the donor's choice.



Martin Armistice Plutt

1940 - 2011

Surrounded by family members, Martin Armistice Plutt died after a brief illness on Monday, March 14.
Martin, 70, was born in Dillon on November 11, 1940 to John and Katherine (Kos) Plutt.
He attended Dillon schools and graduated from BCHS in 1959. He then attended Western Montana College. After being honorable discharged from US Army National Guard he worked for the State Highway Department, UP Railroad and was retired from the US Forest Service. After retirement he enjoyed managing the family homestead and attending the Longhorn Coffee Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Katherine and brother in law Pete Zemljak.
He is survived by brother John and sister in law Connie Plutt of Dillon and sister Dorothy Zemljak of Butte. Nephews and nieces include JP, Jim and Ernie Plutt, Kathy and Mark Simkins, Kelly and Ozzie Osborne, Kristy and Dave Anderson. Pete and Maureen Zemljak, Paul and Christine Zemljak, Michelle Zemljak, and Marilyn and Dave Starcevich. 25 great nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Friday, March 18 at St Rose Church.
Funeral Services will be held at St Rose of Lima Church at 12:10 p.m. on Friday, March 18. A reception will follow at St Rose Family Center.
