Garvin Ray Ferguson 

1948-2013

Garvin Ray Ferguson “Fergie” passed away Jan. 28, 2013 in Dillon.
Garvin was born March 19, 1948 to Garland and Violet Ferguson, in Sheridan, Montana.
Fergie married Cathy Speich, July 25, 1992 in Dillon at the Methodist Church.
Fergie graduated from Sheridan High School and received his auto mechanics degree from Butte VoTech.
Fergie was a material handler for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, retired June 2, 2002 after 30 years of service. Fergie spent his entire career on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. He started as a summer seasonal in 1967, working on timber sales, tree planting and sagebrush spraying in the old Sheridan and Lima districts along with Dillon district.
Other jobs: mistletoe eradication crew member, burning and trail crew member and camp cook. He worked at Wise River (1972-1995), earning his career appointment in 1981. His jobs were: fighting fire, burning slash, being a sawyer and running a fork lift. Fergie moved to Dillon to work fleet maintenance in the SO warehouse in 1995.
After retiring from the Forest Service, Fergie opened his own business, Edge Master Sharpening, and was often seen at local fairs with his shop trailer.
Fergie is survived by his wife, Cathy, sister in-law Arlis Vannett, his twin brother, Garland (Janice) Ferguson of Hyram, Utah. Sisters; Patsy (Duane) Roundy, Wellsville, Utah, Peggy Whitley, St. Joe, Missouri, Gayla (Bill) Mathis, Arizona City, Arizona, Nieces and Nephews; Kerri, Randy and Wendy Ferguson. Joe Vannett and Leah Smith. Special friends, Doris Richard and Ed Kenison and Fergie’s beloved dog, Quieran.
Services are planned for Saturday, February  2 at 2 p.m. with visitation on Friday, February 1 from 5 to 8 p.m., at Brundage Funeral Home. There is a guestbook available at www.brundagefuneral.com.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dillon Humane Society, Festival of the Trees, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, The Bannack Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
