Obituaries 11-04-2009

Alberta "Birdie" Evelyn Cook

1930-2009

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Birdie Cook, left us peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Alberta ‘Birdie’ Evelyn Cook was born on May 8, 1930, to Elmer and Nora Johnson at the family home in Absarokee. She attended Absarokee schools and graduated in 1948. During high school, Birdie met the love of her life, Chuck Cook, and married him on June 6, 1948. They made their home in Rapelje, where they welcomed their daughter, Linda Carol, in 1949, and their son, Terry Charles, in 1954.

In 1959, Birdie and her family moved to Dillon, where they would make their home for 41 years. She was very proud of her home, and spent countless hours tending to her flower beds. She was known for having the most beautiful sweet peas and fuchsias, and would love to feed her hummingbirds that would visit her each year. The inside of her home was equally beautiful with an abundance of violets throughout. The care that she gave her flowers was only a small dose of what she would give to her family. She blessed them all with her kindness, tenderness and loving heart each day of her life.

Birdie worked for Dillon Cable for several years, but her true love was selling Avon. Her Mrs. Alby Doll collection and Christmas ornaments show that she was as much a customer as she was an employee. She was Chuck’s greatest supporter while he attended college to become a teacher, providing her the opportunity to retire at an early age.

Chuck and Birdie moved to Billings in 2001 so they could be closer to their family. Their Sunday family dinners were the highlight of the week for her daughter and granddaughters. During their time in Billings, they reconnected with some friends from their younger years and had the chance to fulfill Birdie’s lifelong dream to travel to Hawaii.

Birdie was welcomed into heaven by her parents, her son Terry, and her younger sister, Phyllis. She leaves behind her husband, Chuck; her daughter Linda (Gary) Jones; granddaughters, Dana (Jesper) Hansen, Jodi (Ryan) Rookhuizen, Shandee Cook, and Keely Cook; grandson, Cory (Nikki) Jones; great grandchildren, Taylor Orms, D’Andre Cook, Terrell Cook, Ellie Rookhuizen, soon-to-be Kayleeona Cook, Samantha Fina, Emmy Jones, and Shale Jones. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Emily (Dan) Aadland; daughter-in-law, Cindy Cook; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staffs at Highgate Senior Living and Rocky Mountain Hospice. It was a blessing for us to know that Birdie was so well cared for during her brief illness.

Memorials may be made in Birdie’s name to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or the Special K Ranch, Inc., P.O. Box 479, Columbus, MT 59019.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on 1108 24th St. West, Billings. Interment will follow at the Rosebud Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery and condolences may be sent online to www.cfgbillings.com.
