Herbert Lee Sturm
1927 - 2011

Herbert Lee Sturm, 83, of Dillon, passed away at Parkview Acres Care and Rehabilitation Center on June 19.
Lee was born on Sept. 2, 1927, in Dillon, to Herbert and Ida Wenger Sturm.
He attended school in Jackson and Wisdom as well as Beaverhead County High School.
In 1943 he enlisted and served in the United States Army until 1947. After his tour of duty he returned to Jackson to work for Dansies until he married Margret Deatschon June 18, 1947.
He then went to work for Henry Deatschon, and set out on his own in 1956 with his own construction company as a building contractor.
He was a teacher, and instructed many on the proper way of constructing with perfection. Many would say that he was very particular.
He and Margret had a daughter, Sandy.
After many years in the construction business, Lee retired in 1993, then moved to Lakeside in 1996. He also spent a few years in Kalispell but moved back to Dillon in April of 2010.
Lee is survived by his wife, Margret; his daughter, Sandy (Doug) Briggs; grandchildren, Brittanny (Tyrel) Munday and Brendan (Jenna) Briggs; and three great-grandchildren.
A visitation was held June 23 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brundage Chapel, with funeral services on June 24 at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Beaverhead senior bus.

Donald Duane Crosser
1928 - 2011

Donald Duane Crosser, 83, died peacefully June 17.
He was a beloved father and grandfather, loyal friend, diligent businessman, versatile athlete, and loving brother.
He leaves behind his sister, Shirley (Howard) Cooper; sister-in-law, Patti (Frank) Burrows; daughters, Cathleen Crosser, and Carolyn (Brad) Vining; a son, Michael (Ann) Crosser; grandchildren, Tony (Whitney) Vining, Tim (Leesa) Vining, Tarah Crosser, Sydnee Crosser, Amanda Hall, and Cory (Marie) Sorrells; and great-grandchildren, Chase Vining, Makayla Hall, and Dillon, Cash and Sadie Sorrells; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Don was born in Lewistown, June 15, 1928, where he attended local schools.
Graduating from Fergus County High School in 1946, he enlisted in the Navy.
Don married Loraine Marion Thom in Lewistown Sept. 3, 1949, and they moved to Missoula.
Don graduated from the University of Montana in 1952 with a degree in business. While attending college, he was on the Grizzly track team specializing in the pole vault. He worked at a local garage fixing cars and was a member of the Air Force Reserve.
His retail career started with JC Penney Co. in Missoula, assistant manager in Kalispell, and manager in Dillon.
In 1965, Don and Dan Kretzer purchased Eliel’s Department Store from Lambert Eliel. The partnership continued until Don became sole owner in 1972. Don retired in 1990 to enjoy his family, his community, and his love of sports.
Don was involved with the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Dillon Rotary, Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce, Dillon City Council, Beaverhead Country Club, Dillon Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, and WMC and BCHS athletic programs. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Dillon.
Don was an athlete who could slalom, water ski, play tennis and racquetball, enjoy and excel at golf, fish the Beaverhead, ski at Maverick, and pole vault in high school, college, and as a senior athlete in Montana and Arizona. He played bridge, pinochle, and gin with his friends.
Volunteering at the hospital was his way of giving back to his community.
He attended as many high school and college sports as he could, and was always willing to help with fundraising events.
Memorial services for Don Crosser will be Saturday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Church in Dillon.
A social celebration will follow at the church. Graveside services will be private.

Thomas A. Deyo
1934 - 2011

Thomas A. Deyo passed away at his home in Dillon on June 15.
Tom was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Jackson Hole, Wyo. He graduated from Jackson-Wilson High School in 1952.
Tom served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne, and then graduated from Weltech College, in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1962.
He retired from Continental Pipeline Co. after 26 years of service. He was supervisor of corrosion and measurement, and worked in Roundup, Cut Bank and Bountiful, Utah.
Tom was an avid fisherman and enjoyed animals and wildlife.
Tom is survived by his wife, Marilynn; son, Tom F., and wife Sue; grandchildren, Chase and Jalen Deyon, Bozeman; daughter, Debra Johnson; granddaughters, Kara, Marissa and Jenna, Dubois, Wyo.
At his request no services will be held.



Charles Robert Whitney
1946 - 2011

Charles Robert Whitney, 64, passed away at Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, Nev., June 16, of complications from cancer.
Charles was born July 3, 1946, in Sheridan, to Charles Edward and Mary Gerlean Wickham Whitney of Twin Bridges.
He married Carol Romero in Chula Vista, Calif. She passed away Oct. 30, 1991, from lung cancer.
Charles married Laurie Neforos Dec. 31, 2002. She was by his side to the end.
Charles service in the Marine Corps. from 1965 to 1972. He was in Okinawa for 13 months, and Vietnam for six months, being called home due to an illness in the family.
Charles achieved the rank of Sgt. E-5, and received a Vietnam Vet service medal, as well as a medal of Good Conduct.
Besides his wife Laurie, Charles leaves behind a son, Wayne (Magdalena Rojo Mendoza) Whitney, San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Susanne Hill, Independence, Ore., and Mary Lou (Paul) Venard, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; brothers, Mike Whitney, Twin Bridges, and John (Bonnie) Whitney, Shelby; two grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.



Ruth Bethea Nettles
1925 - 2011

Ruth Bethea Nettles, 85, of Dillon, passed away at Barrett Hospital and Healthcare on June 24.
Ruth was born on July 16, 1925, to Charles and Agnes (Langley) Betheain Titusville, Fla.
She was a school teacher and organist. She also was an avid letter writer, gardener and quilter. She had an immeasurable love for children, and loved to watch the birds of all stripes and colors.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church as well as the Baptist church, and never had a religious conflict with anyone. She enjoyed communicating with people and encouraged conversation to gain knowledge.
Ruth went on her first date with Ken Nettles on Nov. 24, 1947; they ended the date with a kiss, and it has been true love ever since. They were married on Aug. 26, 1948.
She is survived by numerous loving children with a vast heritage of wonderful grandchildren and extended family, and she will be dearly missed.
Visitation was held June 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Dillon.
