Dean Dixon

1926-2009

Former Lima area rancher Walter Dean Dixon, 83, of Idaho Falls, died Dec. 2, 2009, at his home.

He was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Walter Ellsworth Dixon and Grace Violet Clark Dixon. He grew up in the Idaho Falls area and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.

Dean served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II.

On Feb. 26, 1947, he married Bonnie Rae Williams in Idaho Falls. Together they raised five children. He was a member of Christ Community Church.

Dean farmed in the New Sweden area and ranched at Lima. He served on the Idaho Falls District 91 school board for nine years, acting as chairman for three of those years. He was involved with the Eastern Idaho Potato Control Committee, the Cattlemen’s Association, and the Idaho Cattle Feeders Association, as well.

He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, and especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his widow, Bonnie Rae Dixon of Idaho Falls; sons, Robert Dean Dixon of Hillsborough, Calif., Ryan Walter (Annick) Dixon of Idaho Falls, Dennie Ray (Chris) Dixon of Meridian, Idaho, and James Corey (Penny) Dixon of Idaho Falls; daughter, Karen Jan (Alan) Hoskins of Idaho Falls; sister, LaVerne Marie Kruse of Boise, Idaho; brother, Donald Ellsworth Dixon of Idaho Falls; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dennis; and his granddaughter, Angela Dixon Osterman.

Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at Wood Funeral Home, Idaho Falls, with Pastor Rick Lum of Christ Community Church officiating. Burial was in the New Sweden Cemetery, with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Memorial Veterans’ team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
