Ronald O. Jensen
1936 - 2010

Ronald O. Jensen’s courageous battle with colon cancer ended Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, ID. He was 73.
Ron was born August 13, 1936, to Clarence and Mamie Jensen in Lima. He grew up in the Red Rock area where he attended elementary school.
Ron graduated from Beaverhead County High School. While in school, Ron began his love of woodworking that he carried throughout his life. Most prized were the grandfather clocks he made for his four children. One of Ron’s favorite pastimes as a young man was hunting and fishing.
Ron learned his strong work ethic by beginning as a ranch hand in the Big Hole. He moved to the tri-cities where he co-owned a beverage business.
In 1973, Ron was employed by the DeAtley Corporation as a truck driver. It was during a job assignment in Pierce that he met his wife, Dee Carlson Derrick.
Ron and Dee enjoyed traveling and being around family and friends during their 37 years of marriage. Ron worked with, and managed, Atlas Sand and Rock for the DeAtley Corporation for 35 years before retiring in 2008.
Ron served on the board of the Idaho State Trucking Association, IMTA, and also was a 50-year member of the Elks Lodge.
He joined the Lewiston Roundup Association in 1991, and served as president in 1999. During this time his drive was to make the grounds better, and to make it a place that the community could be proud of. In 2002, Ron retired from the Roundup Association. This past year Ron served as the grand marshall at the 75th Lewiston Roundup.
Although Ron worked hard, friends were an essential part of his life. He found special enjoyment in meeting with friends over a good lunch, and discussing the news of the day. This became especially important to him as he fought his battle with cancer.
Ron is survived by his wife; sister Viola Hall (Melvin), Menan, Idaho; daughters, Kelly Torske (Jim), Hardin, and Dena Thornton (Rich), Spokane, Wash.; sons, Bill Jensen (Paula), Twin Falls, Idaho, and Ken Derrick (Tammy), Battleground, Wash.; eleven grandchildren, Cary Jensen, Casey Jensen, Cody Jensen, Katrina Sands, Erica Sebring, Thor Torske, Bergen Muzatko, Julie Garza, Bryan Thornton, Chris Derrick and Trevor Derrick.
Ron delighted in his 11 great-grandchildren, and was surprised by the birth of Audrey Jensen on his birthday.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother and father.
A private family memorial was conducted at Mountain View Funeral Home, Lewiston, Dec. 20. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held March 20, at the Elks Lodge, Lewiston, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., to remember and share fond memories of Ron.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society.
