Howard Tedder

1941-2012

Howard Tedder, 70, of Dillon, passed away September 23, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Howard was born in Estes Park, CO, to Joseph Tedder and Della Heckathorn Tedder, on October 31, 1941. The only thing in life Howard wanted was to be a cowboy.  His dream came true at the young age of 11 when he started his first ranch job.  This led to a lifelong commitment to a way of life for him and his family.
He met his wife Linda at a dance on New Year’s Eve and they were married six weeks later on Valentine’s Day.  Despite skepticism, this union lasted 43 years, three daughters and too many moves to count. Linda was always by his side including the difficult months of his illness.
Howard was one of the “true cowboys” of the old days.  He was never without a good horse, a good saddle and a good dog.  He always said there was nothing he, his horse and a good dog couldn’t do.  He taught his daughters in the same fashion and expected nothing less than the best from them. He expected his “helpers” to show his crew what was expected from them.
Howard loved the mountains but always considered himself a “desert rat”.  He enjoyed the warm weather, sagebrush and challenges of ranching in the high desert regions.
Some of Howard’s favorite memories are of teaching the nieces and nephews how to ride and handle animals.  Even after they moved to Montana, one of his nieces brought her horse to him for help with a problem.
Howard is survived by: his wife, Linda Tedder; daughter Shelley LeProwse and her husband, Cody; daughter Sheila Lambert and her fiancé Jimmy Christensen; granddaughter Nichole Lambert--all of Dillon; his sister Maggie Keen and husband Corky of Texas; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Byron Tedder and Harold Tedder, sisters Frances Marshall and Barbara Sheleyand, and daughter Gina.
Cremation has been conducted.  A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Idaho Street, Friday Sept. 28, at 10:30 a.m.   A reception will follow immediately at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Barrett Hospital Home Health and Hospice.
The family of Howard Tedder would like to thank the staff at Hospice, Dr. McIntyre and the wonderful nurses at Barrett Hospital.  Special thanks for all the love and support from Pastor Jim and Ruth Grosse and our family in Jesus at First Baptist Church. Your prayers and thoughts have meant so much to all of us over the last few months.
