Carol French

1948 - 2011

Carol was born in Hall on Sept. 20, 1948, to Jack and Fern (Susie) Richmond. She was the third eldest of six children, and looked up to by them all.
Carol married Thomas Clifford French in 1966. Tom was 72 and Carol was 18. Four years later they had a daughter. Tom passed away in 1981 and Carol was a widow at 33. She never remarried as she said there would never be another man like the one she had lost. Though she remained happily single, she carried a torch for Elvis Presley and John Wayne. If they had only known.
What can really be said that would do justice to this kind and loving woman. She lived a difficult life, and persevered over unbelievable adversity.
She loved her friends and family fiercely, and had an insurmountable pride in them. She saw the greatness in people that they did not see themselves. Because of this, Carol made you want to be the person she saw in you.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Carol Fay Porter (Ron Porter); granddaughters, Theresa Hope Hawkins and Ronnie Renae Porter; siblings, Dennis Johnson, Larry Johnson, John Lee Richmond, Glory Gene Richmond and Zella Richmond Mason (Tom Mason); nieces and nephews, Myles Thomas Mason (Kathryn Mason), Jessie Lee Richmond, Jackie Dale Richmond and Jennifer Marie Richmond. She is also survived by many wonderful friends and care givers who richly blessed her life.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the First Baptist Church across from the post office on Friday, March 18, at 3:30 p.m.
