At the age of 86, our mother, grandmother and sister died peacefully at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, MT early Sunday morning, April 18. Irene was born the daughter of James and Susie (Canady) Bryant, May 5, 1923 in Peoria, OK. The family later moved to Galena, KS.
Irene started school in Nashville, Mo., graduated from Riverton High School in Riverton, Kan., and went on to attend college in Dillon.
On January 23, 1943, she married B. J. Burris. They later divorced. Irene worked as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office where she retired.
Irene loved little children and she spent many hours at the Joliet elementary school just listening to the children read aloud.
Survivors include her sons: Wayne (Jean) Burris, Silesia, Tom (Sorrel), Rock Springs, Wyo.; sister, Minerva Ketterman, Joplin, Mo.; brother Jennings (Marie) Bryant, Shawnee, Kan.; grandchildren, Codi Lee, Brenna, Lowell Wayne and Troy Burris; and numerous nieces and nephews

William Wade Tevis

1923 - 2010

William Wade Tevis, a retired physician, passed away quietly on April 11, in Atherton, Calif. He was 87.
Bill was born in St Louis, Mo. and raised in Wichita, Kan., where he attended public schools and Wichita State University.
From 1944-1947 he served in the United States Navy and studied medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Veterans Hospital in McKinney, Texas.
He was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict, and served as a captain in the Air Force, and headed the medical department at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas.
He practiced privately in Palo Alto, Calif. for 30 years where he served on the staffs of Stanford and Sequoia Hospitals. The last 14 years of his career were with the Menlo Park and Palo Alto veterans hospitals.
He was a Mason and a member of the Menlo Park Rotary Club, and was a regular visitor of the Dillon Rotary Club.
Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cynthia Lacy Tevis, MD. A few years ago they began ranching in Montana.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, garage-saler and antiquities collector, and although Parkinson’s Disease took its toll, Bill’s spirit remained steadfast and strong.
He was very close to his brother Daniel Tevis (Karen) of Wichita, Kan. They shared and supported each other through life’s joys and trials.
He is survived by his first wife, Susan Moreton, Atherton, Calif.; their children, Melinda, Robert and Martha, and by his wife Cynthia, step-son Thomas Harrison (Melissa) Lacy, MD of N.C., and their children Keira and Colin; daughter Sara (Christian) Quesada, and their son William Santiago, 7-1/2 mos.
In deference to Bill’s wishes, no service is planned, but there will be private memorial gatherings in California and Montana.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Washington University at St Louis School of Medicine, Campus Box 1193, One Brookings Dr., St Louis, MO., 63130, or the Parkinson’s Institute, 675 Almanor Ave., Sunnyvale, CA., 94085.
