Hucke wins close Beaverhead County Treasurer race; Welborn, Marsh win easy

Cathy Hucke held off Ed Hoerning to win the Republican Primary race
for Beaverhead County Treasurer/Assessor. In other contested county
races, Jeffrey Welborn and Linda M. Marsh claimed decisive victories
in races for House District #72 and County Superintendent of Schools,
respectively.
In the state-wide race for U.S. Representative, Denny Rehberg
overwhelmed challengers Mark T. French and A.J. Otjen on the
Beaverhead County Republican ballot, while Dennis McDonald claimed a
two-to-one win over nearest challenger Melinda Gopher on the
Beaverhead County Democrat ballot.
With the eight City of Dillon precincts in at 9:50 p.m., Hucke held a
78 vote lead over Patti Lake and a 100 vote margin over Hoerning.
Hoerning made a move when the rural ballot boxes rolled in, passing
Lake and closing to within 63 votes of Hucke. With the unofficial
tally posted, Hucke garnered 32.5% of the vote, Hoerning 29.7%, Lake
27.9% and Jessica Brevig 9.8%.
Voter turnout was low at the polls at 48.3% of active voters. Of the
2,124 ballots cast, 1,017 came in via absentee ballots to account for
an oustanding 42% of the votes cast.
