Janice Kay Smart  

1950 - 2013


 Janice Kay Smart passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2013, at her home in Lima.
 Janice was born September 5, 1950, to Bernard and Jean Harkness in Dillon. She attended Nicholin Grade School and graduated from Lima High School in 1968. On November 30, 1968, Janice married William Smart. Together Janice and William raised four children.
 During Janice’s lifetime she worked in several different fields and ended her career as a licensed real estate broker. Her greatest accomplishment was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Janice loved spending time with her 16 grandchildren. Some of Janice’s other loves were gardening and genealogy.
 Janice is survived by: her husband, William Smart; her four children— Shayne (Kelly) Smart, Kaitlyn, Dusty, Garrett, and Ayden; Michael (Katie) Smart, Morgan, Rae, and Tillman; Taffy (Tim) Jacob, Henry, Ty, Reece, and Piper; Kerry (Kolton) Andrus, Mikhali, Porter, Isabella, Abigail, and Zander. Her parents, Bernard and Jean Harkness; sister, Bernice (Angus) Smart; brother, Kelton (Sue) Smart; aunt, Bonnie McNich, and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by: her brother Ernest Harkness; grandparents Ernest and Ruth Harkness; father and mother-in-law Floyd and Hannah Smart; and uncle Dick McNich.
 Services will be held on Wed., May 22, 2013 at the Lima Church of Latter Day Saints. The viewing will be held from noon to 2 p.m. with services to follow. Interment will be held at the Lima cemetery. A guestbook is available on-line at www.brundagefuneralhome.com.



Virginia Margaret Knudsen  

1917 - 2013


Virginia Margaret Knudsen passed away peacefully on May 14, 2013, in Billings.
 Virginia was a long-term resident of Billings, where she lived for the past 62 years. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 59 years, William Knudsen; her parents, Estella and Oscar Husted; brothers Charles, William and John Husted; sisters Edith Martinell, Grace Beason, Dode Grimm and Betty Johnson.
 She is survived by sister Idella Massara, Ross, CA, sister Judith Knudsen, Sonoma, CA, daughter Peg Deno, Fridley, MN, and son Roger (Sue) Knudsen, Billings, along with four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
 Virginia was born sixth of 10 children to Estella and Oscar Husted in Dillon, on Sept. 26, 1917. She grew up on a ranch in the Big Hole Valley.
After her marriage on July 11, 1936, Virginia spent many years outside Montana prior to her arrival in Billings, where she and her husband lived, worked and raised their two children.
Virginia retired in 1978 from the Billings School District after working at Lewis and Clark Junior High.

The family would like to express appreciation for the staff at TenderNest and Rocky Mountain Hospice who cared for Virginia. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Yellowstone County.
