Emerson Selway  

1921-2012


Emerson Selway passed away peacefully November 3, 2012 after a short illness.
He was born August 25,1921 in Dillon, Montana to Roy and Mary (Ries) Selway.  He was the youngest of 6 children and was raised and worked on the family ranch.
In December 1942 he enlisted in the Navy where he was a machinist mate with the Navy Sea Bees. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Florence Casterline November 28,1942. They made their home in Dillon where they raised their 3 children.  He worked for Joe White’s Garage, College Motors and Minerals Engineering as a mechanic.  After Minerals Engineering closed he went to work for Beaverhead County High School where  he not only was the only mechanic for many years but also drove a regular school bus route and all of the out of town trips. Parents always made the comment that they never had to worry about their children getting home safely, no matter the weather or road conditions, when he was driving. He enjoyed all the teachers, coaches and students he hauled in the 28 years he worked there.
After he retired he and Florence liked to travel traveling from coast to coast and Hawaii and taking their life long dream trip to Australia. They spent a couple of winters in Arizona then started going to their son Steve’s home where he enjoyed working with and helping Steve in his race horse surgery practice.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family and doing things with them.  One of his favorite things was camping with family and friends.  He  enjoyed camping, driving his own motorhome up camping, till he was  89 years old.
He was the kinest most thoughtful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was always there to help in any way he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was proceeded in death by his father and mother,brothers Harold, Doug, Marvin, Charles, infant sister Julia and his wife of 60 years Florence.
 He is survived by sons Steve (Fran) Selway, Ron (Juanita) Selway, daughter Lynnette (Joe) Macioroski, grand children Veronica Selway, Barbie (Ivan) Campos, Trenton (Sheryl) Selway, Justin (Elizabeth) Selway, Charlene (Andy) Walker, Carrie (Horald) Mitton, 7 great grand children and numberous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday November 9 at 2 pm at Brundage Funeral Home. There is a guest book available on-line at www.brundagefuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers the family has request donations to charity of the donor’s choice.



Helen Christianson Hilton  

1934-2012


Helen Christianson Hilton,  77
“Don’t Count the Days, Make the Days Count”
Helen Hilton - caring wife, mother, and friend - passed away at Barrett Memorial Hospital on November 1, 2012 with her husband by her side.    Born in Piggott, Arkansas on January 6, 1934 to Fred and Hazel Thornton, she lived in Dillon since 1974.
Helen’s main love was her family and this is her legacy.   She met her first husband, Ronald Christianson, as employees at Old Faithful Inn, Yellowstone National Park.  They were married in 1957 in Chaffee, MO and had four children: Erik Christianson (Pam); Kyle Christianson (Sandra); Lee Christianson (Holly); and Amy Christianson Navarro (Jorge).  
After losing Ron in 1984, Helen found the second love of her life and married  Gregg Hilton February 17, 1990.  She became the stepmother to Grant (Fern), and Valerie.
Helen received her teaching degree in Home Economics from Southeast Missouri State College in 1956.  She was a teacher in the Dillon School systems from 1976 to 1992.  She also taught in East St. Louis, IL; Corvallis, MT; & Missoula, MT. She had many fond memories of the students lives she touched over the many years.
Helen also loved to travel with Gregg and her family.  Their adventures included South America, Australia, Africa, Europe, and Asia.  There was not a part of this world they didn’t leave unexplored.  She shared her love of traveling with all her family and was known for including grandchildren in her adventures.  Her most recent adventure was with her husband, 4 children and spouses, and 11 grandchildren sailing in the San Juan Islands on a 126-foot schooner for 6 days and nights.
Helen was dedicated member of the community, active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, PEO, the BUG program, and she loved playing Bridge anywhere she could get a group together.
Helen is survived by her husband Gregg, her 4 children and 2 stepchildren and their spouses, and 14 grandchildren.  She also is survived by her brother Fred (Lynn) Thornton of Sikeston, MO.  She has many more family and friends that loved her dearly.
A viewing was held at Brundage Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 5.  A memorial service was held Tuesday November 6th at 11 am at Grace United Methodist Church. A potluck reception followed services at the Elk’s Lodge

Robert Melvin “Bob” Hull  

1929-2012


Robert Melvin “Bob” Hull died Nov. 1, 2012, in a Billings Hospice unit.
Bob was born on Aug. 19, 1929, in Boise, ID. He was the first of the four sons of Melvin and Leona Hull. Following the death of his father in 1943, Bob and his mom and three brothers moved to Deer Lodge.
At age 17, Bob enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged after 22 years of service.
Following his discharge, Bob moved to Dillon. Trained as an air traffic controller, Bob became an excellent dispatcher for the Sheriff’s office. Before the new jail was built, Bob and his wife FanEtta cooked and watched over prisoners for Sheriff Lloyd Thomas.
Bob was a loyal member and officer of the Dillon and Billings Elks Lodges. He and his wife served as stewards for Dillon Elks 1554. He was also a loyal member of the Masons, Shriners and American Legion.
Bob is survived by his wife, FanEtta, his daughter, Lori, son, Terry, and daughter-in-law, Patti, as well as sister-in-law Marilyn Hull, Frank and Yvonne Hull, Larry and Cecelia Hull, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard “Toad” Hull, and by his nephew, Tim Hull.
Bob loved to bowl, dance, and play cards and dominoes. Most of all, he loved to sing four-part harmony with brothers Frog, Toad and Tadpole.



Betty Jean Lashlee  

1942-2012


Betty Jean Lashlee, 70, passed away on November 4, 2012, at home surrounded by her family after a long but courageous battle with cancer.  She was born June 23, 1942, in Portland Oregon, to Max Wayne Huston and Bernice Marie Huston.  She grew up in northern California. She married the love of her life, Leonard Lashlee, and they spent the next 38½ years together.  She has one son, Aaron Michael Lashlee.
She is preceded in death by her father and her brother, Joe. She is survived by her husband and son.
