Carl Julius Hartwig
1935 - 2010

Carl Julius Hartwig was born Aug. 10, 1935, to Julius and Isabella (Mast) Hartwig in Dillon.
He married Karen Neidt Sept. 9, 1956, in Washington, D.C., where he was enlisted in the Navy.
After serving at Fort Mead, Md., and in Japan, Carl and Karen returned to Montana where Carl worked various jobs until accomplishing a life long dream of becoming a pilot.
Carl worked as a flight instructor in Dillon and then at Butte Aero in Butte before becoming a pilot for the Montana Power Company in 1980. He retired from the power company in 1999.
Carl was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served in various callings in the Butte First Ward.
Carl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen; his brothers, Bill Hartwig, Red Rock, Kenneth (Suzie) Hartwig, Belgrade; sister-in-law, Chari (Gordon) Payne, Whitehall; his children, Janis (Dan) Woodards, Butte, Pat (Annie) Hartwig, East Helena, Kym (Walt) Lewis, Ammon, Idaho, Faith (John) Metesh, Butte, Kyle (Megan) Hartwig, Vancouver, Wash., Jake (Lisa) Hartwig, Butte, Alden (Carol) Hartwig, Selah, Wash., Laura (Kevin) Terry, Washougal, Wash., Jon (Chris) Hartwig, Raymond, Ohio, and Jennifer (Tyler) Fleming, Butte.
Carl had 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 29, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Butte.
Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery.
Contributions can be made in Carl’s name to the missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the Montana Council of the Boy Scouts of America.


Steve Lemmon
1939 - 2010

Steve Lemmon of Garneill passed away Oct. 27 in his home surrounded by his family, due to complications of cancer.
Steve was born on the ranch Jan. 16, 1939, to Leo Lemmon and Etta (Brewington) Lemmon.
Steve attended Garneill Elementary and Moore High School in 1957. Following High School, Steve worked for the Forest Service and then joined the Army and was stationed in Germany in 1961.
Steve worked road construction, and then came home to the family ranch where he met the love of his life.
Steve married Patti Anne Else, June 6, 1978, in Dillon Montana. From this union were born David, Becky and Theresa.
Steve went to work for Fergus County Road Department in 1994 while continuing to ranch.
Steve was an avid sportsman and taught his wife and children to be the same. Steve thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and the company of his family.
Becoming a grandpa, or Pops as he was referred to, was the highlight of his final chapters of his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Leo and Etta; brother, Don; and his father and mother-in-law, Lester and Tina Else.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Patti; son, David (Angela) and their children, Walter, Isabelle and Winston; daughter, Becky and her daughter Raelee; and daughter, Theresa (Brandon) and their children, Preston and Dallas; his brother, Jake Lemmon; and sister, Pauline Fowler; as well as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Vigil services were held Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Judith Gap.
The funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m., at the Catholic Church in Judith Gap.
Interment took place at the Judith Gap Cemetery, and was followed by a reception at the Methodist Church.
Services were entrusted to Creel Funeral Home of Lewistown.



Sam E. Breneman
1913 - 2010

Sam E. Breneman, age 97, was
born in Carson, Iowa.
Sam was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in April 2010.
He is survived by Dolores Breneman, Mary Jo Gibbons, Tom and Barbara Breneman, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He moved to the Centennial Valley in 1941. He ranched there until 1995.
He enjoyed operating machinery and solving problems.
Sam never met a stranger.
A memorial gathering was held on Monday, Nov. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the BrundageFuneral Home.
