obituary for Valerie Matoon

Valerie Matoon

1964 - 2010

Former Dillon resident Valerie Matoon died at Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., on July 12 after a long battle with Crohn's disease. She was 45.
Valerie was born in Big Timber on Oct. 8, 1964, to Allen and Patsy (Adamsen) Matoon. She attended school in Dillon, and then later in Riverton, Wyo., where she graduated with the class of 1983. She earned an AA in computer science from Flathead Community College in Kalispell.
Ms. Matoon lived in several Montana towns before settling in Missoula. She enjoyed spending time on Flathead Lake, outdoor sports, NASCAR, board games, University of Montana Grizzlies sports teams and her cats. She also volunteered much of her time to several worthy causes.
She is survived by her father, Allen Matoon, Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers, Victor (Kathy) Matoon, Riverton, Wyo., David (Colleen) Matoon, Shelby; sister, Dana (Jay) Springer, Seeley Lake; nephews, Arron, Sean, Cage and Barrett; nieces, Sam, Amanda, Mallory, Kara, Amber, and great-niece Stacey; several aunts and uncles, cousins; special friends, Rita, Sandy and Marcy; and beloved cats, Gypsy, Kalli and Claude.
She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, mother Patsy, one aunt and uncle, and stepfather Dean Dorland.
Cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be held at a later date.
