Lloyd M. Winden

1932 – 2013

Lloyd Myron Winden, 81, born July 31, 1932, passed away peacefully on Aug. 2, 2013.
Lloyd was the second youngest of Gilman and Hattie Winden's ten children, and was raised in Alexander, ND. Upon his high school graduation, he served our country in the U.S. Army 1952–54.  In 1954, he married Anna Mae Delaney in Williston, ND, where they raised eight children. Lloyd worked in sales for Sweetheart Bakery, Sears and Conlin’s Furniture. In 1972, he moved his family to Dillon, where Lloyd and Anna owned and operated the Coast to Coast hardware store until 1992, when Lloyd retired and said, “It’s time to go fishing.”
Lloyd was a simple man needing little to keep him happy; a card, a visit or a short drive in the country would make him beam for days. He loved taking his family on vacations in Uncle Artie’s school bus and developed the “kid countdown of 8” to make sure no one was left at the rest stop. He enjoyed camping in the huge green army tent, building monstrous bonfires and smore’s, choke cherry picking, fishing and hiking. He also enjoyed ice skating, drive-in movie theaters, classic autos and ice cream treats at the A&W and Dairy Queen.
Lloyd loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his eight children: Wesley Winden (Dwan), Rayanne Winden, Greg “Whooter” Winden (Robin), Steve Winden, Dennis Winden (Linda), Theresa Ovenell (Mike), Colleen Hatcher (Kerry) and Jennifer Hanson (Mark), as well as by his 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Danette Watson.
Very special thank yous to: Cindy Pettit, for the amazing care she gave our father; the Barrett Memorial Hospital and staff; Dr. Tom Murray, Hospitalist, and to Dr. Ron Loge for all of the years he provided excellent health care to Lloyd and our family.
Friends and family joined in the celebration of our dad’s life at the Brundage Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 5. A guestbook is available at www.brundagefuneralhome.com .
In Lloyd’s honor, memorials can be made to Barrett Hospice Memorial Fund, c/o Barrett Hospital Foundation, 600 MT Hwy 91 S, Dillon, MT  59725.
