Frank T. "Bud" Caprara

1927-2009

TWIN BRIDGES -- Frank T. "Bud" Caprara, Jr. age 82 of Twin Bridges passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at St. James Hospital in Butte after a brief illness.

Bud was born in Butte Aug. 23, 1927, the middle child of Frank T. and Myrtle (Henderson) Caprara. He was raised at Buxton and attended school at Ramsey and Butte High. He worked summers for the NP Railroad at Silverbow.

At 18 he enlisted in the armed forces and served in the European Theater during World War II from Oct. 10, 1945, to Aug. 13, 1948, where he earned several medals.

He married Dorothy Miles November 18, 1951. They had three children and later divorced. He then married Penny Shipp and had two boys. They made their home in Twin Bridges.

Bud worked briefly for Stauffer Chemical then for the State of Montana Highway Department finally as a project engineer, retiring in 1989 with 42 years 10 months of service.

Bud enjoyed playing softball, bowling, cards, and gardening. He was a wonderful cook, especially Italian dishes. He loved getting together with family and passed his love of fishing, camping, and the outdoors on to his children.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Penny, his daughter Vicky (Gregg) Rydquist of Great Falls, and sons Vincent (Rosa) Caprara of Denver, Craig (Colleen) Caprara of Missoula, Gary (Heather) Caprara and Mark (Lisa) Caprara of Helena, and his siblings Marion Farmer and Richard (Linda) Caprara of Butte, 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Myrtle Caprara.

Memorial services were held at the K&L Mortuary Chapel at Twin Bridges Monday, Oct. 5. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Twin Bridges Volunteer Fire Department.





Fern Margurite Goodman

1918-2009

Fern Margurite Goodman, 91, of Polson, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula.

Fern was born March 19, 1918, in Dillon to the late Iva and Andrew Downing. She married James L. Steffes June 30, 1936, in Dillon, and had a daughter, June Sloan of Polson. She divorced and later married Jack W. Goodman (daughter Sherry Ruttenbur and husband Neil).

Fern loved to travel, country music and was always helping someone out.

Fern, “Nana,” worshiped her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her survivors include daughters, June Sloan of Polson, and Sherry Ruttenbur (Neil) of Seeley Lake; grandchildren, Karen Loewen (Roy) of Nine Mile, Greg Sloan of Spokane, Wash., Gordon Sloan of Polson, Lee Ruttenbur of Kalispell, and Christi Ruttenbur, now stationed in Iraq; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husband, Jack; and a grandchild, Loren Ruttenbur precede Fern in death.

Phyllis Irene Hubbard Worth

1926-2009

Phyllis Irene Hubbard Worth, 83, passed away on Oct. 3, from liver cancer.

She was born in Dillon on March 4, 1926, to Lee Hubbard and Minnie Hubbard Dingley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1976; her father, Lee Hubbard, and mother, Minnie Dingley; and her sister, Shirley Webster in 1964.

She is survived by her son, Charles; and nephew and niece Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Webster and their families of Dillon; by her half-sister and brothers-in-law, Deane Wilde (Elmer) Roberts, of Idaho; Linda Peterson (Gaylin) of Shoshone, Idaho; Sandy Hockwort (Larry) Roberts of Idaho and Yuma, Arizona; and their families.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Barrett Home Health and Hospice.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. A potluck reception will follow graveside service at the First Baptist Church across from the post office. For questions contact Mary Holt at 683-4540.

Katherine Elizabeth Mooney Alley

1920-2009


Katherine Elizabeth Mooney Alley, 89, died peacefully Sept. 20.

Katherine was born in Dillon to Daniel F. Mooney and Lucy Morris Mooney on June 6, 1920. She was raised in and attended school in Dillon, graduating from Beaverhead County High School. She married Weldon Maxwell Alley and they were longtime Dillon residents. They were blessed with one son, Daniel Alley.

Katherine worked for Woolworth’s and King’s stores for many years and then for Beaverhead County for the Treasurer’s and Clerk and Recorder’s offices, retiring to take care of her family.

Katherine loved taking care of her family and having family and friends near her. She enjoyed tending her yard and flower gardens and could usually be found in the yard enjoying the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, and son, Dan; parents, Dan and Lucy; brothers, Dan, Francis, and Earl Mooney. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Veeta Alley; granddaughter, Deena Alley; numerous nieces and nephews; and grandnephews and grandnieces.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Brundage Funeral Home with service at 3 p.m. Graveside services to follow and a reception at the United Methodist Church in Dillon.

Dorothy J. Albro Ferris


Dorothy J. Albro Ferris of Riverton, Wyo., passed away Sunday, Sept. 20 at Whitehall. Dorothy will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 with graveside services at the Mount Green Cemetery at Willow Creek. Cake and coffee following at the Willow Creek Fire Department.



Shawn "Casey" Russell

1972-2009


Shawn "Casey" Russell rode away to join the Lord's remuda, leaving behind his family and friends in Wise River to remember his kind heart and cowboy ways. Casey died Tuesday, Sept. 1 in the University of Utah Health Care in Salt Lake City.

Casey was born April 10, 1972, to Ron and Sharlene "Charlie" Russell in Bozeman. He attended school in Alder and Wise River and graduated from Beaverhead County High School in Dillon in 1991.

His work included operating heavy machinery, driving a truck to haul cattle and being a range rider and all-around cowboy.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and National Rifle Association, and was an outstanding athlete in long-distance track, boxing and wrestling.

Casey married Dana Lee Russell on Aug. 14, 1995, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Together they had four children, Sue, Shanna, Ann and Clancy.

He was a cowboy with a kind heart, who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

He enjoyed hunting, skiing, snow-machining, playing his guitar and entertaining. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and his family, and riding in the mountains.

Casey is survived by his wife, Dana; and their four children; ron and Charlie Russell; sisters, Kate (Dave) Franich and Gayl (Ken) Gravly; nephew, Clay Todd; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held Sept. 12 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Laurin.

Burial took place in the Sheridan Cemetery.

Casey's family is grateful to the staff at Barrett Memorial Hospital in Dillon, and Dr. Sandra McIntyre at the University of Utah Hospital CCU.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the S.C. Russell Children's Fund at the First National Bank in Butte.



Karl Lowell Sauerbier

1920-2009


Karl Lowell Sauerbier rode home to the Lord on Sept. 15, 2009.

Born April 10, 1920, to Karl and Eva Trenerry Sauerbier in Virginia City, he grew up and attended school there, graduating from Virginia City High School in 1939. He served his country proudly as a member of the US Army Air Force during WWII in India. After being discharged, he returned to the Ruby Valley, working various jobs, before owning the Dudley Garage in Virginia City. On Oct. 16, 1949, he married Edna Anderson of Alder and began ranching, where they enjoyed many wonderful years and raised two daughters.

Lowell was a true public servant, serving his community in many capacities. He served for many years on the Alder Volunteer Fire Department and Ruby River Water Users’ Association, and the Ruby Valley National Bank Board of Directors. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #390, and a past Exalted Ruler and District Deputy. Lowell was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Blue Lodge and Bagdad Shrine; Order of Eastern Star and American Legion.

Lowell is survived by his two daughters, Janet (Dan) Doornbos of Alder and Kristy of Dillon/Alder; granddaughters, Amanda Doornbos of Helena, Kace Doornbos of Bozeman, Megan Doornbos (Ryan Ellis) of Alder; sister, Jane (Harmel) Dawson of Salt Lake City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edna in 1998, his parents, brothers Neil and Gilbert and sister Patsy.

The BPOE Elks Lodge #390 of Virginia City conducted the Lodge of Sorrow Friday Sept. 18 at the K&L Mortuary Chapel at Sheridan. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 19, from the Elks Lodge in Virginia City with Father Todd Young officiating. Interment with military honors followed in the Taylor Cemetery at Alder.

Memorials can be made to the Tobacco Root Mountain Care Center, Ruby Valley Hospital, Elks National Foundation, or one's choice.
